1. Using RapidTransfer
  • Overview: RapidTransfer is an initiative by Ecobank that allows for cross-border transfers within its 33 African markets, including Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
  • How to Use:
    • In-Person Transfer: Visit any Ecobank branch or a RapidTransfer agent. Fill out the RapidTransfer Send form and provide a valid photo ID (National ID, International Passport, Driver’s License, Voter’s Card). Once verified, you’ll receive a transaction reference number.
    • Mobile App Transfer: Download the RapidTransfer app on your Android (5.0 or later) or iOS (8.0 or later) device. Register for an account and provide personal information. You can send money directly to a recipient’s bank account in Nigeria or choose cash pickup options. The transfer limits are up to $10,000 per day.
2. Using AfriCash
  • Overview: AfriCash is a service provided by the United Bank for Africa (UBA) that allows for quick and secure money transfers across Africa.
  • How to Use:
    • Visit any UBA branch or authorized agent. Fill out the Send Form, providing a valid ID (National ID, Driver’s License, Passport, etc.). You can send money directly to a UBA account or other banks in Nigeria.
    • Funds sent via AfriCash are typically deposited instantly into the recipient’s account, and you will receive a Transaction Receipt and Collection Pin Card for tracking purposes. The weekly transfer limit is $50,000.
3. Using UBA MoneyGram
  • Overview: UBA is a licensed MoneyGram agent in Sierra Leone, facilitating easy cross-border transactions.
  • How to Use:
    • Fill out the Send Form at any UBA branch, specifying the amount, transfer method (bank deposit or cash pickup), and recipient details. You’ll need to provide a valid ID and pay the transfer fees.
    • If you choose a direct account deposit, your recipient will receive the funds in minutes. For cash pickups, the recipient needs to visit a MoneyGram agent location with a valid ID and transaction details.
